The KOM Open Computer lab serves thousands of students each semester. Approximately 100,000 sessions are logged yearly for 7500 students/800 sessions per day. In order to keep up with the growing demand for computing resources in an efficient and cost effective manner, we are requesting an upgrade and expansion of our virtualization capabilities. This will allow far more flexible options in supporting student, faculty, and staff computing resource needs in the areas of academic resources and supporting applications. This will also help reduce overhead in maintaining current and future computing resources, and grant expanded options to transition critical applications from older equipment. To facilitate this project, we will require two significant servers for the roles of virtualization hosts, and a network infrastructure expansion to 10 gigabit Ethernet to provide an appropriate networking backbone. This networking upgrade will not only support the virtualization hosts but allow an overall improvement for current and future resources. We are also requesting renewal of a yearly service contract for deployment facilitating software AdminStudio.
