The School of Music is requesting a harp and accessories to accommodate our developing harp studio. Dr. Sarah Crocker teaches applied harp and has served as a School of Music faculty member since Fall 2013. Harp is frequently a part of our ensemble performances in the School of Music and is often requested for other campus events. There are harp students who cannot afford the expense of the instrument, and MTSU does not own a harp. Adding a harp to the instrument inventory in the School of Music would help students for years to come and provide opportunities for students who are unable to afford and store their own instrument. Additionally, the School of Music is requesting additional tenor and alto saxophones for the Band of Blue whose instrument inventory has fallen into disrepair and in extreme need of boosting. The Band of Blue was likely the most visible facet of the School of Music in Fall 2020. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Band of Blue continued to perform at home games (masked and socially distanced) and received national media coverage and attention as an example of “how it’s done.” The School of Music has 230 music majors, 70 music minors, 77 music industry minors, and 28 graduate students. We served 891 non-music students in the general education course MUS 1030 in Fall 2020.
