To provide two portable computers and LCD projectors for MTSU students and faculty attending classes at off-campus locations. Off-campus courses are held in high school classrooms that are not equipped with instructional technology. Many undergraduate and graduate level courses require students to present computer-aided presentations, yet these off-campus students do not have the same access to classroom technology as most of their on-campus counterparts. A computer and LCD projector would also allow faculty to project multi-media presentations, web pages and other electronic media to students. We are requesting one computer and projector for the off-campus site in Franklin, and one computer and projector for the off-campus site in Smryna. For the 2000 calendar year, there were over 200 students (duplicated headcount) enrolled in courses at the Franklin location and over 215 students (duplicated headcount) enrolled at the Smyrna location. The equipment would be portable and lockable so that it could be moved in the event that classes are moved to a new off-campus site. Providing these computers for MTSU’s off-campus classrooms would directly benefit off-campus students, would be an appropriate use of their Technology Access Fee dollars, and would provide them with resources similar to those available to MTSU’s Murfreesboro campus students.
