The Computer Science department provides students with academic programs in computer science, and courses in computing for other departments. Presently, the Computer Science department maintains a 32-node cluster in the Science Building that is reaching the end of its useful life. In order to provide faculty and students with modern academic resources, we are proposing the purchase an updated cluster with competitive CPU and GPU processing capabilities. This would not only support existing programs within the department and college but expand capabilities to handle future development. The department would need purchase a minimum of 8 high performance computing nodes from a supplier that specializes in such devices (Lambda Labs), each device with significant CPU and GPU capabilities. Also supporting power, networking, and storage infrastructure would be purchased as well, and could include UPSs, network switch with cabling, and NAS/SAN systems to properly support high performance computing demands.
