The Interior Design Program (IDES) moved to its current location in the LRC in 2012. Since that time, however, LRC 112 has never been upgraded and is still in analog format. This classroom is used by the IDES Program as a computer aided design studio for 6 different classes per year, serving approximately 126 students (MTSU registration data). IDES students are primarily visual learners and the curricula is heavily immersed in technology as a teaching and learning tool. Having modern upgraded classroom technology is essential not only for student use, but for classroom instruction as well. Accreditation standards from the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) for the Human Sciences Department and the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) for the IDES Program require facilities to be well equipped and promote learning via instructional technology. LRC 112 is the only LRC classroom that is not equipped to meet these accreditation standards. The request for technology improvements will directly benefit the 99 (University Power BI data) undergraduate students currently enrolled in the Interior Design Program as of fall 2020, as well as a comparable number of students in subsequent years. Advancing the instructional technology in the Interior Design Program is critical in attracting perspective new students and to remain competitive in producing industry ready graduates.
