We would like to upgrade the master classroom technology in Wright Music Building (WMB) 173. This is our instrumental rehearsal hall (IRH), where the room is very large (max capacity 200) and ceilings are very high. This classroom has outdated lighting, a weak projector, an antique document camera, an outdated cart, a camera on a pole mounted to the teacher’s desk, and many other issues. We need separate controls over multiple light groups, including (and especially) the lights in front of the drop-down screen. There are two circuits in this classroom. One turns off the front three quarters of the room, and one turns out the back fourth. In order to see the dropdown screen, professors must leave students completely in the dark. This project is imperative for quality instructional delivery. The IRH is outdated, the lights do not dim, the students can’t see projected images on the screen. The line item for $40,000 for classroom technology came from James Copeland and will include a laser projector and additional upgrades to the existing master classroom technology. Maria Knox has instructed us that lighting is considered construction. Investing in this project will benefit our students, faculty, and other groups from outside the university.
