The Audio Production program, within the Department of Recording Industry, has approximately 575+ students enrolled for Spring 2022 term. This proposal requests the replacement of eight professional-grade recording studio/lab computers that are mission critical to the success of the program and their students. The replacement of these eight computers will ensure that students have access to technologies needed to ensure that they are successful both academically and professionally. The existing computers are late 2013 Mac Pros (9 years old) and are nearing the end of Apple’s support cycle. Apple is in the process of transitioning to a new hardware architecture, and these computers are becoming less viable with decreasing technical support and increasing security liabilities. Each of these computers serve as a core computing resource for a studio/lab environment. The failure of one of these 24/7 mission-critical computers would render a studio/lab unusable and cause as many as 6+ RIM/MRAT classes and 16+ collaborative student studio/lab hours to be lost daily. Consequently, each outdated computer creates a single point of failure and could hinder the academic experience and development of students in eight instructional studio/lab locations. (Studio A in BRAGG 178, Studio B in BRAGG 184, Studio C in JUB 120, Studio D in EMAIN 105, Studio E in EMAIN 102, Post Lab in BRAGG 183, Edit Lab in BRAGG 177 and Mix Lab in BRAGG 180).
