The James E. Walker Library at MTSU is the intellectual center for MTSU students and reflects the university's commitment to education and research. Walker Library is the largest open computer lab on campus and open for a total of 111 hours each week during the academic year. We have over 400 computers available for student use (mostly purchased by TAF) as well as laptops and other technology related items we check out to students. We also have a nationally recognized Makerspace that is open to all students for the creation of STEAM projects. With the growth of online programs at MTSU we are seeing greater use of our circulating laptops. We would like to replace 15 of these laptops that are old and out of warranty. Experiential learning is a top priority for the university and have identified several pieces of equipment that are used heavily in our Makerspace. Our high-end resin 3D printer that is used by students in our Makerspace not functioning and we are requesting a replacement. We are requesting HTC Vive VR object trackers to incorporate motion capture in our MakerSpace green screen room. We are requesting a short throw projector and Arduino microcontroller kits for student projects in our Makerspace. This year we are scheduled to have several of the library’s open lab iMac computers replaced. We are requesting funds to upgrade these machines to a higher performance level to give students more access to higher performing software. To streamline the management of these computers we are requesting Mosyle remote support software so that we may be better equipped to maintain the library’s open lab Apple equipment.
