As media has evolved and become more widely used, the Department of Media Arts has experienced steady and continuous growth for the past ten years. The department has a little over 800 majors and little over 300 minors. Many of our courses are popular electives as well. The nature of media production routinely requires new technology and replacement of older technology. We propose to replace a 14-year-old video switcher in our main TV studio. The current switcher has failed components, and replacement parts are no longer available. The console will be replaced and the control room itself will be refurbished for the first time 30 years. We also propose to add 11 Cintiq tablets to our Animation labs. These are standard tools in the animation industry and allow students to draw directly on the video screen. We propose to convert a traditional darkroom in the Photography program into an all-digital lab with new digital tools including computers and digital printers. We all propose to replace two failing teleprompters in Studio 3 (LRC 106)
