The requested TAF funds are for Discipline specific equipment for students in the Athletic Training major. The athletic training education program is in the final stages for accreditation by the Commission for Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. The athletic training laboratory/library, a student laboratory where all hands-on athletic training courses are taught, is utilized for students to gain proficiency in cognitive and psychomotor skills. As of Fall 2001 (number compiled by department chair), there were 105 athletic training majors. In addition to these students, students in ATHT 2580 (3 sections offered in fall; 2 in spring) & 2590 (2 sections offered in fall, 2 in spring) are open to all majors. This increases the number of students utilizing the athletic training laboratory/library to approximately 240. The primary purpose of this equipment is to further develop a student-centered learning environment. Equipment being requested is: interactive 3-D anatomical CD-ROMs, interactive ultrasound and electrotherapy equipment (with interactive LCD screen and anatomical library), and modalities that students must become proficient in and can also be used to foster undergraduate and graduate research by students. This equipment will allow students to learn at their own pace and will help with the program’s accreditation.
