The Audio Production Major, within the Department of Recording Industry, has approximately 575+ undergraduates enrolled for the Spring 2023 semester. The College of Media and Entertainment has 1017 students this spring. The Masters of Fine Arts degree has 30 students involved with Sound Reinforcement. This proposal requests the purchase of professional sound reinforcement equipment to provide audio students with hands-on learning experiences that are critical to prepare them for positions within the live entertainment production industry. The proposed equipment purchase contains the following: a digital console, a line array speaker system, system infrastructure, i.e., cabling, connectors, and electrical distribution, and a stage monitor speaker system. Our existing equipment is primarily analog with entry-level digital consoles, and we currently do not own a line array speaker system. This purchase also contains accompanying software that will be utilized for design and homework assignments. Students will receive hands on experience in classroom activities, lab assignments, and concert type events. This request is for necessary instructional technology utilized in the Recording Industry classes RIM 4330, 4333, 4335, 4337, and MRAT 5330. This equipment would benefit the MTSU community in the venues including but not limited to the Chris Young Café, Tucker Theatre, Union Ballroom, and KUC Theatre. With up to five Sound Reinforcement classes offered each semester at least 60 students could use this equipment regularly. Accordingly, this equipment is essential to provide quality instruction in the Sound Reinforcement program.
