Lighting design/technology is an essential element of the Theatre and Dance Department’s in-depth training and extensive co-curricular program for students across MTSU. To remain current in the industry, we request the addition of new state of the art lighting console to replace our existing, non-operational and unrepairable unit. The School of Music (SoM) presents over 200 concerts per year in Hinton Hall. Its current lighting system is a hodge-podge of modified original (1980) equipment and added patchwork gear which negatively affects students and faculty performing live music for recitals, choral, and orchestral concerts: its poorly lit stage and lighting glare makes it difficult for musicians to read music and the mix of equipment is not compatible. We request upgrades to the lighting system to address these problems. According to MTSU OSHA, it is a violation to have extension cords resting on the ground while students are present in class. Additionally, because students in Art classrooms work with plaster, wood, and paint, proper ventilation is required. To address safety hazards for students, faculty, and staff, we request installation of: 1) ceiling-mounted circuits for cord reels in Todd 115, 116, & 127 to eliminate tripping hazards; 2) one air filtration unit for these classrooms to remove contaminants; and 3) a new spray booth ventilation system in Todd 301B. We request a large format printer for the Anthropology lab (WPS 111B) to replace their outdated, nonoperational one.
