As one of the largest unmanned experiential learning programs in the United States, MTSU’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operations (UAS) concentration is committed to providing world-class training to our learners. To give our learners the necessary knowledge and skills to compete in the UAS marketplace, learners need to acquire actual flight experience using the latest technology. This proposal supports UAS Operations majors (79 AY 22-23) and minors (14 AY 22-23) in EXL courses AERO 3711, 3721, 3731, 4701 and 4710. The equipment will also support UAS Technology concentration (proposed). Blue list drones are now required for all federal agencies and federal grants that require UAS. This proposal will provide learners with experience on two blue list aircraft systems, Alta X and Wingtra. The EVO Max 4T, released in January 2023, will allow learners to gain experience with the latest sensors and a system that can create a mesh network with other UAS. The Rock R360 LiDAR system and software will provide valuable experience using LiDAR for precision 3D mapping and modeling. In collaboration with the Pro-Pilot concentration (673), the CRJ 700 FMS PTT will allow learners to gain experience with the latest advanced flight management software. Supply chain issues have impacted the UASO program. A CO2 laser cutter will allow for in-house manufacturing of UAS components and give learners experience with developing and building their own unmanned aircraft. Equipment in this proposal will not only provide world-class training to our learners, but also provide research and collaborative opportunities with external partners.
