The proposed computer hardware and software purchase serves two purposes: 1) Replace the aging workstation for the visually impaired in the foreign language lab. The workstation was purchased in 1999, which is at the end of its three-year cycle. We need to upgrade the workstation’s hardware and the JAW for Windows software (a screen reading software for the visually impaired) so that disabled students can receive the same kind of service as other student users in the foreign language lab. 2) A writing assistance tool as well as other necessary hardware and software for students who are taking Spanish language classes at MTSU. More than 800 Spanish learning students each year are required to use specialized word processor for composition in Spanish. Atajo Writing Assistant is the software that is strongly recommended by more than 4 faculty for their students to use in the language lab.
