We propose a full classroom renovation and update of classroom technology for Peck Hall 218 to accommodate flex instruction (synchronous on-ground and remote), to enhance student enrollments and support flexible degree programs. This involves updates of classroom technology to include instructor and classroom microphones and tracking cameras to allow simultaneous synchronous remote and on-ground students to engage as if they were in the classroom together. We also propose a flexible furniture selection to allow seating to be reconfigured from lecture classroom to conference-table style, to accommodate graduate seminar classes in a more professional setting. This classroom sees high-volume use, and has seated an average of 518 students per year over the last 5 years. In addition to Sociology classes, in the past 5 years PH218 has been used for classes in Anthropology, English, Women’s Studies, and Child Development and Family Studies, as well as the Japan School. The construction line will include: • Reconfiguring to change the front of the room to the window wall • Electrical and network for instructor’s station upgrades, if necessary, and to add wall-mounted displays. • New window shade • New flexible student furniture • New flooring, ceiling, paint, lights, and door as the budget allows.
