The Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology program acquired AMG 116 in 2020. This classroom was converted to a master classroom in 2008 using TAF funds. It has not been updated in 16 years. The primary IT upgrades we request include a wall-mounted touchscreen display, a tracking camera for recordings, screen mirroring software, and an assistive listening system. We currently use a wall-mounted touchscreen display in AMG 121, and it has become an essential tool for all the courses we teach that involve anatomy. We also have multiple classes that include written instructions on the board. The touch screen allows us to save the notes for the students and allows the students to see the handwritten information on the class recordings. The current camera setup is focused on a very small portion of the whiteboard in the center of the classroom. Most of the whiteboards cannot be seen on the classroom recording, and the students cannot access the written information presented during instruction. The screen mirroring software would be used by all courses in SLPA, specifically all clinical courses and our newest course, CDIS 4950-Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). A large portion of the AAC course will focus on high-tech devices used to assist individuals in communicating. The programs are used on iPads, so this software will allow the instructor to mirror the apps on the iPad to the screen in the classroom. This is essential for teaching students how to program the devices as well as how to conduct therapy sessions using the devices. The Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology major often attracts students who are hearing impaired. They have significantly benefited from their services and therapy and want to give back. Faculty must wear a microphone each time a student with a hearing impairment is in our class. An assistive listening system in AMG 116 would allow the students to automatically connect their hearing aids to the audio system in the room and provide them with the highest sound quality possible. This request would benefit the 120 students currently enrolled in the SLPA undergraduate program and allow us to expand to a graduate program (approximately 40 students). Our academic space must be close to our clinic space and resources so that our students can have the hands-on learning experience required for our field. Bldg/Room: AMG 116 Proposal Breakdown: 1 Master Classroom Equipment Upgrade $23,000 1 Construction $61,000 The TAF proposal construction line for AMG 116 is $55,000.
