This proposal aims to significantly improve the technology for our video classes. The Ross Motion Graphics and Streamline systems will automate the workflow, creating a portable system for students who are creating television newscasts and class projects in the School of Journalism and Strategic Media. Nearly every single news outlet in the television markets around the United States have standardized their workflow to include automation. This proposal would be a step towards fully automating the workflow in our studio, serving students in JOUR 3332/3333 Video Storytelling, JOUR 3520: Special Topics, JOUR 3720: News & Sports Producing, JOUR 3460: Entertainment & Lifestyle Storytelling, JOUR 3570 - Broadcast Announcing and Performance, and JOUR 4440 - Advanced Reporting. Students in Middle TN News and MTN Sports would also use this equipment. We are also requesting replacements of the Panasonic HV-X2 Cameras and accessory equipment. Students use these cameras in all of the classes above, plus JOUR 2720 Digital Media Practices. This course is part of the True Blue Core. We offer 6-8 sections of this class each semester, a number which is growing. Additionally, all students in SoJSM classes (approximately 1,000 students per semester) will be able to check out these cameras for projects.
