The Department of Accounting requests $3500 for purchasing software for our students. Beginning in early 2004, the Uniform CPA exam will change from the traditional paper-and-pencil format to a computerized exam. In the new exam, students will be given various accounting cases, and will be tested on their ability to locate the correct answer in the applicable professional literature in an on-line environment. Students currently use hard copies of the various types of accounting literature for MTSU course assignments. We would like to have funds available to purchase the electronic versions of these databases. We believe that access to online resources would significantly enhance our students’ learning experience on campus. Not only would using these resources benefit students as they prepare for the CPA exam, but it will also mirror what they will see in the workplace upon graduation. Our request is for the 3 databases that will be utilized in the CPA exam: RIA for tax at a cost of $1115, AICPA accounting and auditing literature at $1185, and FASB literature for $1200.
