Replacement of Existing Technology

This proposal asks for funding under three different categories: 1) Replacement of disabled student workstation (Items 1-4): The foreign language lab currently has one workstation for disabled student to use. It is in fact the only disabled student workstation in the entire BDA building. The workstation was purchased in 1999, whose hardware is now inadequate to support the latest software packages for disabled students. The Adaptive Technology Center will furnish the specialized software for disabled student workstation. 2) Norton Ghost Corporate Edition for Lab student workstation management (Items 5-7). The software package is used for automatic maintenance of lab computers including hard disk cleaning up, software patching and updating and virus detection. Right now the lab director has to manually maintain each of the 30 student workstations in the lab. With this software package, lab computers can be maintained more efficiently. 3) Upgrade of existing software (Items 8-10). The software packages are used for both undergraduate and graduate courses in foreign languages. Upgrading to the latest version will allow course instructors to keep up to date with the latest technology.
