Replacement of Existing Technology

The current licenses for each of these software packages will expire this summer or fall. The software cannot be used without upgrades and new software key codes.

GIS/Remote Sensing Sofware. This software will be used by students in the following Geography and Geology courses: Geographic Information Systems, Advanced Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, Cartography, Image Interpretation, Computer/Field Methods in Geology, and Geologic Remote Sensing. These are all upper division courses, some of which are also listed for graduate credit. The average annual enrollment in the classes varies between 50 and 75 students, depending on which classes are offered each semester. About 10% of these are graduate students. All items requested are licensing, upgrades and support for the following GIS/Remote Sensing software: ESRI ARCGIS, ERDAS Imagine, and ER-Mapper. This software is required to continue operation of our GIS and Remote Sensing classes and labs. There is no Departmental or Institutional funding set aside for this software. These licenses are absolutely essential-our labs cannot function without them.
