A Sonovet ultrasound is requested for determining backfat and muscling of meat animals. It also will be used for pregnancy checking of animals. This ultrasound would be used in animal production and animal care courses. Students majoring in animal science and pre-veterinary medicine would have hands-on experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data. The milk processing facility is requesting 1) a milk analyzer and 2) a retail-packaging machine. The analyzer would determine fat and protein content of produced and processed milk. The packager would be used to test market dairy products on campus. The MTSU milk processing facility is the only one in operation at a Tennessee public university. Finally, a General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS) is being requested for use by agribusiness students to understand agriculture yield, profits, and sales to better prepare them for agribusiness positions. GAMS will help students understand real world problems that can be solved using theories and approaches discussed in the classroom through use of the GAMS software.
