Geosciences requests a Master Classroom conversion for the “Crow’s Nest”, KOM 452. The General Studies course, Intro Earth Science (Geol1030), is primarily taught in SAG125 (capacity 106) and KOM320 (capacity 58). Geosciences must leave Stark 125 – a casualty of the Domain Concept. We have been given the Crow’s Nest for first priority scheduling. However, to use a cliché – the room is woefully inadequate. It has no LCD projector and is arranged in “shotgun fashion”, the last few rows are truly remote. The Upgrade. 1. Reposition the instructor midway on the long (entry) wall. Back rows will be much closer to the new front. 2. Install corner (right and left) LCD projectors/screens. Both room sides will be closer to a screen; two different images could be shown at once. 3. A slide converter will allow presentation of our faculty’s large collection of color slides. 4. The new configuration, with tables and chairs, will accommodate 98 students, maximum capacity. Geosciences will offer additional large sections of Geol1030, and begin some large sections of Geography 2000, also General Studies. Approximately 800 students will benefit each semester. Moreover, the room will be available for other departments to schedule classes, and for special purpose events.
