The School of Nursing (SON) recognizes the critical nursing shortage. In the past year, much has been done to address the shortage including increasing the enrollment of the generic students by 25%. Unfortunately, our current building and classrooms can not safely and comfortably accommodate an additional increase in our enrollment. In addition to the increase in number of generic students we are also experiencing an increase in the number of RN to BSN students with a current enrollment of 133. With the implementation of the MSN-RODP program in the fall of 2004, MTSU has 73 graduate students registered with MTSU being their home university. The total enrollment of undergraduate and graduate students is 1233. This growth is exciting but also brings the challenges of the need for increased space. Thanks to the Christy Houston Foundation and the Department of Health and Human Services, funds have been obtained to expand the CNKB building. Additional monies are being requested through TAF to equip the expanded building with current technology and create two 59 seat Master Classrooms that have the ability to expand into one. This would enable the SON to continue increasing enrollment and help address the nursing shortage.
