SFA 301 and 303 into Master Classrooms: We are requesting funds for turning SFA 301 and 303 into Master Classrooms. Without master classroom improvements, the spaces are basically only useable for music rehearsal and one-on-one applied teaching space, and are woefully in need of renovation. When converted to master classrooms, SFA 303 will seat 45 and 301 will seat 26, and this proposal would realistically create 750 prime-time student seats (based on 75% capacity between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.), making it available for General Education and regular classes. According to Watson Hannah, one TAF master classroom proposal should easily fund the turning of the two requested classrooms back into highly usable spaces. Much of the infrastructure already exists (wiring, lighting and ceilings), as the rooms were previously equipped as Master Classrooms (the technology was moved to Todd Hall with the Art Department). The McLean School’s rapid growth has made it increasingly difficult to find adequately equipped classrooms to accommodate both majors and non-majors (music majors have increased by 20% and SCH by 43% since Spring 2004; 60% of music instruction is to non-majors).
