The animal science laboratory facilities are critical to the experiential learning dynamics in the School of ABAS. These facilities consist of the Milk Processing Laboratory (MkPL), Animal Anatomy Laboratory (AAL), and Meat Processing Laboratory (MtPL) which impact approximately 80% of the 370 ABAS undergraduates. Requested equipment for the MkPL consists of a bottle filler and capping system, which will expand milk packaging and marketing capabilities, and an infrared dairy products analyzer for determining milk composition. These additions will impact approximately 30% of the ABAS undergraduates by exposing them to modern milk processing and marketing techniques. Requested equipment for the AAL consists of an educational microscope with video projection equipment. There is presently no microscopic equipment available for student use in ABAS. Addition of this equipment will expand capabilities for teaching microscopic anatomy and will impact approximately 55% of those majoring in ABAS. Requested equipment for the MtPL consists of an electric meat fabrication saw and tabletop piston meat stuffer for sausage making. The current laboratory is lacking in meat processing equipment, yet job opportunities for graduates are replete in the meat processing segment of the food industry. This addition will impact approximately 25% of the ABAS students.
