The foreign language lab serves about 3,500 students per year. This proposal asks for fund to replace hardware that were purchased in or before 2001 and update essential software: 1) Replacement of AGING lab servers and printer (Items 1-4). Both the lab servers and printer are essential for our lab operations (for distributing digital language learning materials, administering placement tests and managing student workstations, etc.). They were purchased with TAF fund and have had several hardware problems in 2005. We URGENTLY need to replace them to ensure uninterrupted lab operations. Both the old laptop and LCD projector are frequently used for teaching in BDA classrooms with no computer and multimedia equipment and need to be replaced to ensure their availability. 2) Replacement of multimedia equipment (Items 5-10). The camera, camcorder and scanners are used in graduate courses or by graduate students in their classroom teaching. Both the camera and camcorder are already broken and our graduate students and faculty have repeatedly requested for their replacement. 3) Software updates (Items 11-16). The listed software applications are used together with the multimedia equipment and need to be updated for bug fixes and new functions. 4) Replacement of satellite equipment and annual subscription fee for international programming covering 8 foreign languages taught at MTSU (Items 17-20). The equipment we currently have has been broken for over 4 years and the proposed equipment would re-establish satellite connection to two BDA master classrooms, the foreign language lab and other selected sites on campus.
