Modify the Beowulf parallel processing cluster by replacing the ten oldest nodes with new hardware. The nodes to be replaced are six years old and contribute little computing power to the cluster at this point. New nodes will have state-of-the-art multicore processors. The Beowulf cluster is used heavily by two parallel processing classes each year (one 4000/5000 level and one 6000 level) and gets lighter use in a few other classes. Additionally, it is used for student and faculty research, including research from other departments (e.g., Chemistry and Physics); it is open for research to students and faculty members in any department.
