Laboratory 108 has a surface grinder that was purchased used in 1942. Parts are no longer available. The surface grinder and accessories will be used for several lab classes and work on student projects such as solar boats and cars, etc. It will help serve about 95 students a year. The Rockwell Programmable logic controllers software upgrades and the AC motors and programmable driver will benefit about 80 students a year who need up-to-date software. The present software is seven years old and is outdated. The courses in which the software and motors will be used are ET 4600/5600, and ET 4640/5640. The digital camera and adapter will be used in ET 1210 Introduction to Metals and Mettallurgy in both the fall and spring semesters. THe camera will allow students to view prepared metal specimen as photomicrographs to be taken through our existing metallurgical microscopes. Normally 20-24 students will be served each semester with this technology. Additionally, microphotographs can be stored as computer files and viewed at a later date.
