Project Description: The PhD program in Literacy Studies is a research and applied discipline. As such the EEG and accessories requested are a required part of the need for equipment to train students, both for classroom purposes, and for the research requirements of the doctoral degree, as well as for the need of such experience and expertise for students after they receive their doctoral degree from MTSU. The specific EEG instrument requested is and has to be one that is appropriate for use with both children and adults, is portable and does not need to be used inside a special electronically shielded room. The Polhemus digitizer and stylus listed are a required part of the EEG that will allow us to completely specify electrode placement, a critical necessity for the 64 electrode EEG system. The insert headphone system is a specialized research instrument (calibrated to 16,000 Hz) that is necessary to deliver the auditory stimuli to participants so that we have complete control over the stimuli for which we will be using the EEG system.
