Computer hardware and monitors are being requested for the Horse Science teaching laboratory. Due to a lack of equipment in the teaching laboratory, demonstration laboratories that utilize microscopic evaluation and stored digital images to enhance wet labs and lecture material are difficult to conduct. This proposal requests a computer system and monitors to display real-time microscopic and digitally stored images. This equipment would be used for approximately 135 students per year in the undergraduate reproductive management, stable management, livestock management, and horse production courses, as well as future graduate courses and adult continuing education short courses. Funds from the Mary Miller Equine Health Endowment have already purchased Olympus CX41 Microscope ($4,650) and CCD camera. Additional funds from the endowed chair will be committed to purchasing the software required for image capture and computer assisted semen analysis. Total commitment from the Endowed Chair is over $10,000.
