Most of the faculty in the Department of Chemistry use technology as a critical component of their instructional approach. Priority access to master classrooms DSB 100 (shared with Biology) and WPS 102 (shared with Physics/Astronomy) allows use of technology in larger classes (90-120). For mid-size courses (30-50), master classrooms in AMG 115 and DSB 104 are dedicated to mostly Chemistry courses. DSB 106 remains the only Chemistry classroom that does not have built-in projectors and computers. This frustrates faculty who are accustomed to standard technology, and students who have come to expect it. The Department schedules classes in DSB 106 from 8:00 am to ~4:00 pm daily plus night classes, pre-health professional club meetings, and help sessions several times per week. The purpose of this proposal is to upgrade DSB 106 to a standard master classroom with utilities for wet chemical demonstrations. Based on a maximum of 60 students per class in 12 daytime classes per week and at least 2 smaller night classes with 20 students each, approximately 1440 students are affected during the academic year and another 180 (in 6 chemistry classes) during summer – at total of ~1600 students per year will benefit from the project.
