"A hall, a hall, give room! More light, you knaves, and turn the tables up." (Romeo & Juliet Act 1, scene 5) Shakespeare sums it up best- "More light." Tucker Theatre is a multi-use facility serving between 100 and 600 students during weekly classes. Thousands more are served each semester through rehearsals, performances and guest productions. While "True it is we have seen better days" (As you Like It, A2 S7), Tucker Theatre stays active an average of 1500 hours per semester. The house lighting system was installed in 1963 and is now obsolete, broken and beyond repair. Tennessee's fire code requires 20 foot candles of lighting for proper illumination, but Tucker Theatre currently only provides 4.6 foot candles in the house. The current educational stage lighting package is incomplete and existing gear needs to be replaced and updated. This proposal seeks to upgrade the house lighting system to code and to complete the second phase of the educational stage lighting package so that students have the equipment essential to skill-mastery of state of the art lighting technology and design.
