The JCB University Computer Lab (UCL) serves the entire university and it’s the only computer lab open 24x7. The lab serves a total of 14,000 students from all MTSU colleges and departments every semester. We are requesting: 1) Replacing five laser printers with new ones. The current ones have over 1,000,000 pages printed and are experiencing frequent break downs due to heavy wearing of internal gears. These printers serve 99% of the student’s printing needs, printing a volume of 4,500,000 pages annually. 2) Upgrade servers. Upgrading to new Dell Blade server technology will allow savings in premium physical space and in energy consumption. Blade servers occupy less space and consume less energy than regular rack servers and are equipment much better redundancy, manageability and performance features. 3) Upgrade two demo rooms to the Standard MC upgrade. This upgrade will keep the exiting AMX, computer and Audio/PA system. 4) Add Hand Readers to both entrances of lab. This will eliminate the need of manual scans using ID readers. The ID readers are mechanical units that tend to brake on heavy usage periods. We normally experience 3 to 4 break-down incidents during fall-spring semesters. This technology will depend of the MTSU approve vendor.
