To provide MTSU students and faculty access to high-definition podcasting equipment and hosting services through the Master Classroom in KOM 122. The College of Continuing Education proposes to install the equipment for two main purposes: Non-distance learning faculty may capture lectures live in front of a student audience or record lectures at their own convenience. Lectures are uploaded to the host site and may be downloaded by students who miss class or who would like to review course material. Most importantly, distance learning faculty may record lectures or presentations to give distance students a true multi-media experience. Best practices show that more interaction between students and faculty increases student retention and performance. Distance students would also have a outlet to record presentations for distance courses. In the 2008 calendar year, there were 16,572 enrollments (duplicated headcount) in MTSU’s off-campus and distance education courses (includes enrollments in the RODP). The KOM 122 classroom is also used by non-distance learning faculty because it is a master classroom (an average of six courses per semester). The cost for equipment, installation, and hosting for one year would be $18,205.15. The equipment is manufactured and installed by 323link.com, a company based in Franklin, TN which also holds a TBR contract through TSU (active PO number is P0016200) for podcasting equipment.
