Psychology and H&HP are teaching and research intensive disciplines that have overlapping equipment needs. Both departments utilize physiological measurements including: brain (EEG) and physiological/psychological measurements of heart, muscle, bone density, reaction time and cognitive/neuropsychological functioning. Computer software is needed to handle statistical analyses, as well as software to control experimental conditions. The request for an electronically shielded chamber is necessary to obtain EEG and other physiological measures. Modification of AMG 217 into a teaching/research space will increase the capacity for students to be trained in a modern facility. Cognitive/Neuropsychological tests are necessary for the training and research of School and Clinical psych students. Physiological measures of neurophysiological and neuromuscular function will allow both departments to assess abilities across mental and physical domains. The equipment is needed for classes and research training of students in undergraduate and graduate programs. Between the two departments, well over 1000 students will benefit from and have hands on experience/training with this equipment. The Psych department subject pool includes approximately 4000 students enrolled in General Psychology. They participate in studies being conducted by students and faculty. The requested discipline specific equipment is crucial to meet these needs and will involve a large portion of MTSU students.
