The project has two parts. The first part is cooperative project between the RI Dept and the Theatre program in the Dept of Speech & Theatre. The project will purchase a sound reinforcement system that will be installed in the Tucker Theatre. This sound system will be used by RI students enrolled in RIM 4320 Concerts and Touring and RIM 4330 Sound Reinforcement and by Theatre students enrolled in THEA 3000 Sound Design and THEA 4000 Advanced Sound Design. Over 400 students per year are enrolled in these classes. In addition the system will support all of the dramatic and dance productions in the Tucker Theatre and all of the other programs scheduled into this space. This project represents 74% of the total request. The second part of this project will upgrade equipment and software in the RI Dept MIDI laboratory Comm 180. This lab is used by RIM 4190 MIDI, RIM 4120 Advanced MIDI, RIM 4590 Scoring, and graduate class MRAT 6030 MIDI. These classes enroll about 200 students per year. In addition this lab is open for use outside of class about 60 hours per week.
