The History Department requests funds for 4 portable master classrooms and construction for Peck Hall 264 (card swipe to secure equipment; the second storage room--PH 269--is already secured). Currently, the History Department has 4 antiquated, dilapidated stations cobbled together over the years using departmental funds; this semester these carts are scheduled for use in 43 different classes serving 1,379 students (at census date), and on at least one day the demand exceeds our supply. The History Department is also requesting Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Dreamweaver. Graduate students and undergraduate majors will utilize these programs on the 16 computers in the History Department's McCash Lab (Peck Hall 221) for their projects and Public History classes. Although these programs are not discipline-specific, students with degrees in Public History entering the workforce are expected to have facility with these programs to create museum exhibits and websites. Finally, the History Department requests funds for its Documentary Film Lab (Peck Hall 243) to purchase the Apple iLife '09 Suite (including iMovie) and Apple Snow Leopard for the lab's 21 computers, purchased with 2007 TAF award monies. This software is needed for students involved in creating and digitally editing documentary films in their classes.
