Psychology is a research intensive and applied discipline that requires specialized equipment for classroom instruction, training and research. Clinical and School Psychology require updated test "kits" to meet federally mandated guidelines for replacement of outdated ones. Tests are used for educational training and research (by undergraduate and graduate students and faculty). These kits are for Neuropsychological Conditions, Intellectual Assessment, and Aptitudes/Abilities/Achievement. Approximately 150 students per year receive required training. SONA is critical to managing, organizing and administering the 4000 students enrolled in General Psych per year. They participate in research studies being conducted by graduate (thesis research) and undergraduate students. Both groups are under direct faculty supervision. This adds an additional 500 students to the total. The request for the audio-video equipment is to meet the needs for the newly reconstituted Counseling and Psychological Services (CCPS). The old center burned down and equipment was lost. The observation equipment is specialized in that it allow for the training of students by recording counseling sessions for evaluation and feedback to the graduate students. CCPS offers individual counseling services to Middle Tennessee at a reduced rate. CCPS acts as a referral source for the MTSU Counseling Center, offering free services to MTSU students.
