When approved, the equipment choices in this TAF proposal will insure that the Department of Health and Human Performance (HHP) can provide a safer learning environment for over 2,400 students enrolled in exercise/physical activity courses each semester and improve the skills and knowledge base of over 400 majors representing various diciplines within the department. All of the items included in this proposal are to replace existing equipment that have "outlived" a normal lifespan and is non functional or unsafe to use. For example, HHP has no functional AEDs that would allow an appropriate response to any cardiac emergency that would arise during any of the 120 sections of exercise/physical activity courses taught each semester. Additionally, the ECG stress test systems requested will replace systems that were purchased in the late '70s and are no longer serviced by the manufacturer or any aftermarket companies. This is also true for the examination tables and the safety equipment for SCUBA. The inability to replace this obsolete equipment will immediately affect the department's abitity to offer courses and compromise the skills and knowledge base of majors graduating from the department and attempting to enter the work force in allied health and emergency response fields.
