The University Lab at the LRC provides students with access to 115 Windows and Macintosh computers in three labs (LRC 101, 101A and 101B) and a graduate multimedia development center (LRC 101S) 72 hours per week. We install standard and discipline-specific hardware and software to serve students in departments across campus. In 2010, student visits to our computer facilities totaled 72,776, including walk-in visits and visits associated with technology classes and special sessions. We have installed 25 new computers in our media listening carrels to reduce wait times for computer patrons. Increased demand for SPSS, SAS and Adobe Creative Suite on other lab computers suggests that we need to install these popular titles on the 25 new computers. We request funding for new software, software renewals and software upgrades for all 115 student workstations. We also request funding to replace the aging Macintosh computer and color printer in the graduate center and scanners throughout the LRC labs with newer, more efficient models. Graduate students use the hardware and software in the graduate center to create multimedia projects and edit video for their classes, research and professional presentations. Finally, we request funds to replace 25 failing keyboard trays in LRC 101B.
