Our current URGENT need is to upgrade Rosetta Stone, a suite of interactive language learning software used regularly by more than 500 students in 5 languages each year as course requirements. Our lab currently runs the older stand-alone version of Rosetta Stone purchased with TAF fund 4 years ago. This version is inefficient for faculty to monitor and track students’ use and improvement and limits access to the software to the language lab. The upgrade is a network version that allows access to the software from anywhere on campus, gives updated contents of 5 languages, and will add Chinese and Hebrew, two new language offerings. In connection with the software upgrade, we need two new Dell servers, necessary to host the Rosetta Stone server application, store student data and expand its access on the web. The new servers will replace our very old lab servers that have reached their capacity and end of life. They have been used to administer placement tests to all students enrolled in foreign language courses.
