Psychology provides required statistical and research methods courses for its majors, graduate students, and for doctoral programs in HHP, MSE and Literacy Studies. Each of these courses utilizes computers and statistical software. Psychology has over 1100 undergraduate majors and graduate. All undergraduates are required to take statistics (Psy 3020) and Research Methods (3070). Two statistics courses (Psy 6280 & 6290) are required of all Psychology graduate students. At least eight additional statistics and methods courses are required by certain graduate and undergraduate specializations. Each of these courses require student access to specialized stat software such as SAS, SPSS, and XCalibre. The XCalibre software is used only in graduate courses and will be installed on 24 computers. SPSS and SAS are utilized in a number of courses. SPSS and SAS are needed in sufficient quantity to insure that two rooms of 24 computers are all equipped. The additional 12 copies are requested to equip a third room since the master classrooms are shared with another college and specific room assignments are not guaranteed. The rooms will be used throughout the day for the necessary, required, computer based aspect of the statistics and methods courses.
