The James E. Walker Library at Middle Tennessee State University is the intellectual center for 26,000+ students and is a reflection of the university's commitment to education and research. Last year alone, the Library checked out 80 student laptops 18,039 times; provided access to more than 1,000,000 printed volumes, 300,000 e-books, 20,000 e-journals and 200+ research databases; provided access to 400+ desktop computers with print capabilities; and supported 1,024,029 patrons/students with a wide array of academic needs/services. As an active partner in the scholarly communication process, the Library provides information resources and instructional services that attempt to meet the needs of ALL students, faculty, staff and researchers regardless of their academic disciplines. The overall vision of the Library is guided by the values of excellence, collaboration, service, and responsibility, is the main gathering place for knowledge, wisdom, and the exchange of ideas in an environment of open communication and intellectual freedom. It is a vital partner in the academic mission of the university and offers a skilled staff, with supporting innovative technologies; provides a diverse academic community with an abundance of information, regardless of their location and fully supports ALL teaching, research, and service missions of the overall university/community.
