Replacement of technology request. Training in the use of current field equipment, including surveying and mapping technology is central to the successful employment of students in archaeology and forensic/biological anthropology. Our existing equipment is seven years old and has been used by several hundred students in anthropology, archaeology, history, geosciences, and others, and needs to be upgraded to current standards for training. The requested equipment will be used in training students in the Anthropology major (approx. 130), the interdisciplinary minor in Archaeology, forensic science students and a variety of related disciplines. The technology is regularly used in ANTH 3610 Archaeological Methods, ANTH 3710 Forensic Skeletal Scenes, and ANTH 4950/5950 Archaeological Field School and by both undergraduate and graduate students working on independent research field projects.
