This is a joint proposal from the College of Mass Communication and the Department of Recording Industry to update facilities and replace the Avid digital audio workstations in all RI facilities. The replacement of the Sony consoles in Studios D & E is critical since these consoles are no longer supported. With the next software release ALL current Avid systems (our primary digital audio workstations) will no longer be supported. The failure of a console or Avid system would be devastating to students and could result in canceled classes. Therefore, replacement of these items before failure is urgently needed. The deficiencies of the Studio D & E listening environments are serious impediments to student success, but can be addressed with acoustic treatments and electronics. This project will address these needs, as well as update our mastering lab and convert COMM 165 for audio production. More than 500 graduate and undergraduate students use RI facilities each semester. Affected classes include: RIM 4190, 4200, 4300, 4400, 4480, 4590, 4650, 4651, 4660, 4670, MRAT 6050, 6110, 6130, 6140, 6210, 6650, and other classes. NOTE: None of the acoustic treatments or equipment requires permanent installation in Ezell Hall.
