Current Focus: Understanding the SWI/SNF Chromatin Remodeling Complex

Project Description

I investigate the interactions between the oncoprotein MYC and the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complexes in the context of the cancers malignant rhabdoid tumor and neuroblastoma. In order to elucidate these interactions our lab employs a combination of genetic, genomic, molecular, and biochemical techniques.

What are your professional aspirations?

I plan to pursue a PhD in molecular genetic based virology after I complete my undergraduate degree.

Do you have any advice for future researchers?

Don't be afraid to mess up, and don't let an early lack of knowledge intimidate you! No one knows everything about a given research topic, but asking a mentor where to begin reading is a great place to start. Ask meaningful questions and continually challenge yourself to do better with your research, and you'll be on your way to being a successful researcher.
