Current Focus: Synthesis and Evaluation of Polyaspartate Peptide Polymers
Project Description
This research project investigates the antimicrobial potential of polyaspartic acid derivatives, specifically peptide polymers, due to their biocompatibility and structural versatility. The focus is on synthesizing and evaluating novel polyaspartate peptide polymers to understand their effects on Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms and their stability as protease substrates. By comparing peptide and peptide versions of polyaspartic acid, the study aims to reveal key structure-activity relationships. Through the systematic synthesis of polymers of varying lengths, the research seeks to correlate polymer structure with antimicrobial efficacy, contributing to the design of innovative antimicrobial materials. Why does this topic interest you?
As someone passionate about organic chemistry and research, delving into the synthesis and evaluation of novel polyaspartate peptide polymers offers an exciting opportunity to explore the intricate interplay between chemical structure and biological activity. Understanding how these polymers interact with microbial biofilms and their potential as antimicrobial agents not only pushes the boundaries of organic chemistry but also holds promise for addressing real-world challenges in combating microbial infections, offering a fulfilling avenue for scientific discovery and practical application. What are your professional aspirations?
I want to pursue medicine after the completion of my undergraduate degree.Do you have any advice for future researchers?
My advice would be to find a professor that you get along with and to not rush into research with just anyone. Try to find a topic you love and will genuinely enjoy because trying to do research just for the sake of research is not beneficial for you. But once you find the right lab, you will know!
