Advisor Mastery Program (AMP) Workshops

These workshops will focus primarily on advisor skill-building and knowledge-building. Potential topics include:

  • Technical/Software/Administrative skills (Excel, TEAMS, ARGOS, reading high school transcripts, etc.)
  • Advising approaches and best practices
  • Legal/Ethical issues in advising
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Workshops will be offered twice a month, and will generally be worth 1 point (unless otherwise stated). Workshops will vary in terms of being offered in-person or via zoom.

More Details

This session will provide an overview of the Disability & Access Center's mission to support students with disabilities. We’ll discuss types of disabilities, accommodations, services offered by the DAC and the Adaptive Technology Center, and how to assist students with disabilities. It will also provide general expectations of university employees related to legal compliance and cultural competency. Hosted by Bonnie McCarty and Dr. Lance Alexis.

Dr. Lance Alexis serves as MTSU’s director of ADA Compliance out of the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance.  He has worked in disability and higher education since 2007, been at MTSU since 2013, and has served in his current role since 2017.  He earned graduate degrees from East Tennessee State University, Christian Brothers University, and the University of Mississippi and his undergraduate from the University of Mississippi.   

Bonnie McCarty manages MTSU’s Adaptive Technology Center, part of the Disability & Access Center. Bonnie has been “True Blue” since 2004. Prior to joining the DAC team in July 2022, she served as the head of MTSU’s scholarship program then as an academic advisor in the College of Behavioral & Health Sciences. Bonnie earned an undergraduate degree from Campbellsville (KY) University and a graduate degree from MTSU.
