Join us for the kickoff of our Advisor Mastery Program for the 2023-2024 academic year- a two-day workshop featuring speaker Jeffrey A. Fantine, Ph.D., focusing on the art of academic advising. The first day will include an enlightening keynote speech titled "A New Vision for Academic Advising in Higher Education." On the second day, we have prepared a resource fair where advisors can explore the various MTSU resources available to support student retention and persistence. Jeffrey A. Fantine, Ph.D., has been in the field of adult education and literacy for over 30 years. He is an associate professor in the College of Education and Human Ecology at Ohio State University in the Department of Adult Learning and Workforce Development. He is also a consultant providing technical assistance to states and organizations across the country, focusing on implementing career pathways strategies, improving workforce and professional development systems, and developing and delivering various types of training for administrators and instructors. He previously served as a Senior Project Director for two national projects: Designing Instruction for Career Pathways and Points of Re-entry for Low-Skilled Ex-Offenders, funded by the Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education at the U.S. Department of Education.
In addition, Dr. Fantine was the State Director of Adult Education and Family Literacy at the Maine Department of Education; the Director of the Center for the Study and Development of Literacy and Language at Ohio University, a resource center that provided professional development to Ohio's Adult Basic and Literacy Education system; and a director of a local adult education program. His passion is helping service providers improve services for adults with low literacy, learning disabilities, and other special learning needs. Fantine served two terms as the Vice President of the Commission on Adult Basic Education six years on the Executive Boards of the National Coalition for Literacy, and eight years as Chair of the Association of Adult Literacy Professional Developers. He has worked closely with the the Advising professionals at Ohio State University in the College of Education and Human Ecology to tie advising and education planning to career goals.
