Victom to Victor: Removing the Victim Lens
Advisor Mastery Program (AMP) Reading Group
Each semester will focus on one specific text, and the reading will be broken into four manageable portions. Everyone is welcome to participate. Reading groups will be capped at a certain number of participants to better facilitate discussion, so it is possible that there will be multiple zoom reading discussions running at once. Each reading session is worth 1 point.

Victim to Victor: Removing the Victim Lens
"Nobody told me!" Have you ever heard that from your students?
In this age of helicopter/lawnmower parenting, we often encounter students who lack the self-confidence and critical thinking skills necessary to navigate personal and academic obstacles. Parental involvement is increasingly prevalent in higher education as parents attempt to secure a successful future for their children.
As parents continue to remove barriers in the day-to-day lives of their children, our students are deprived the opportunity to develop proper coping mechanisms and cultivate resiliency. This session will review the current literature behind victim mentality and provide helpful theories and strategies to empower students to take accountability for their lives.
